Some fun facts about the cover shoot for AUDITION
(courtesy of my editor, Kendra)...
- Kate, the designer, looked at many headshots to find the perfect models for the cover. She wanted models with dance experience. She also brought a number of different outfits--black and pink ballet shoes, legwarmers, two different rehearsal skirts, and leotards in different colors, and a couple of different shirts for the guy.
- The shoot was held at a photo studio in New York City. It had a huge window facing uptown and the river--an incredible view and wonderful light. It took about two hours.
- Kendra described the basics of the story and characters to the models and tried to convey to them that it was important to have a lot of romantic tension.
- Mr. Hottie had just moved to NYC from Los Angeles a few weeks before this cover shoot.
- The girl model's story was similar in some ways to the main character, Sara, from AUDITION-- she's from a small town, she's sixteen, and she comes to New York City to pursue her dreams. But in the model's case, her mom comes with her and they just come for the day :)
I love thinking how both models, like the characters in my novel, are working to make their dreams come true. And I feel so grateful to Kendra, Kate, the models and the photo team for all the thought and effort they put into the making of this cover!

Great choices! Makes you just want to run your fingers along that not-so-cleanly-shaven jawline.
That guy is really hot :)
Yeah. Totally agree. Just one hot dude!
How exciting! And to know the details of the models really makes me like the cover more...funny. Sounds like an amazing ride.
So typical that all the girls are attracted to the "model" guy. You do realize that most men don't look like that, right?
That's really cool! So interesting to hear the background stories of the models. The designer chose well. :)
Nice cover/photo! Haha, dunno about Lisa P's comment--it makes ME want to run for a razor, clean that stubble off, THEN feel the jawline. Ha.
Ohhh....this is very cool to get the inside scoop on a book's cover models!
Love the 'behind the scenes' notes! I'm not really a stubble fan, to be honest, but as long as I don't have to touch it, I don't mind looking ;)
Oh! it's wonderful to know the behind-the-scenes cover stories:)
It's a lovely cover. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks all, for your comments. Glad you enjoyed reading about the cover shoot. And I was honestly fascinated to hear the strong opinions people have about five o'clock shadow :)
Ah, the hottie. I'm a sucker for a hot guy on a cover. Will spread the cover love on my blog tomorrow!
I like the behind-the-scenes scoop! The models are adorable. I give a thumbs-up on the five o'clock shadow, in case you were wondering. ;)
Looking forward to your book, Stasia, and love hearing about the cover shoot!
