The WoW is because I cannot wait to adore another one of her rollicking, hilarious, intense tales that packs power into puns and heart into what at first seems just humorous. Also, she writes about zombies and demons and stuff. Which is totally cool. I full intend to beg her for an arc. I mean B.E.G. !!!!

The gilded cover is SO pretty--sorry this pick doesn't do it justice.

Why?... Katherine has this amazing talent for making teens in historical settings feel achingly real and relatable. FYI, you don't need to read her debut novel, GILT, to enjoy TARNISH. They are both fantastic as standalones. But, if you're an anglophile like me (drat you Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, W. Somerset Maugham, Noel Streatfield), you'l want to read them both. Then you'll want to go to England and visit some castles. In honesty, I'm not waiting for this book because I've already read the arc (read my review HERE) but I am excited that others will be able to read it soon!

Waiting on Wednesday: DRONE PILOT by Conrad Wesselhoeft

Waiting on Wednesday is a great meme hosted by BREAKING THE SPINE. It's a great way to find new reads and bloggers who like books in your genre. I've been getting my feet wet with WoWs for awhile and having lots of fun.

My WoW this week is going to require a long wait. Maybe it's more of a "congrats and look out for this one next year." Anyhow, my esteemed former critique group colleague, Conrad Wesselhoeft's second book is due out from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt next year. I've read parts of this manuscript and the writing is A++++. Conrad is a writer's writer--the kind of guy who crafts sentences so amazing you almost want to sing them. I am beyond thrilled that HMH will be putting these awesome pages between covers in 2014. Why?...I’ve loved Suzanne Young's work since I read A NEED SO BEAUTIFUL and A WANT SO WICKED.  Here she switches gears from paranormal to dystopian with a topical and fascinating plot and a YELLOW COVER OF AWESOME. Boy, those jacket designers must just see Suzanne’s smiling face and think yellow! But, seriously, I’ve been waiting on this one for ages – can’t wait for it to pub next month.

Why?... It's the final installment of Vi, Jag, and Zenn’s breathtaking dystopian journey. Can the rebels defeat the Thinkers at last? Or has the world lost its last chance for freedom? POSSESSION and SURRENDER, the first two books in the series, were breathless, in-the-moment thrill rides of reads.  It’ll be a bitter sweetness to get my hands on this last Possession adventure.

Why?...A few years ago, I attended a writers' retreat with Allyson Valentine, and had the privilege of hearing her read her work. So I KNOW she is an amazing writer. I also love the premise: When her family moves to a new town, smarty-pants Nora takes the opportunity to remake herself by keeping her intelligence a secret. MUST. READ. ON.

The opening pages of the book are already available to read on AMAZON and I DARE you not to preorder this title once you've had a taste of Valentine's sharp, lively writing style.

I’ve loved this fantastic meme from BREAKING THE SPINE for ages and have finally decided to get my feet wet and talk book lust. This week’s pick…

Why?...First, the awesome tag line:  “She failed to save his life. How will she save her own?”

More importantly, I’ve snuck a peak at the first few pages of the arc and it’s taking all my strength not to pull BRUISED from its slot in my tbr pile and just finish it right now.   Exploring the effects of violence on both perpetrators and victims, Sarah Skilton’s debut novel is timely and topical.
